Winter Holidays at Bright Kids: Where Curious Minds Come to Life at Moranbah East State School

What if the school holidays didn’t feel like a gap to get through — but an adventure to look forward to?

That’s the question behind everything we do at Bright Kids at Moranbah East State School, and it’s the spirit that shapes our Winter Vacation Care program every single year.

For the children of Moranbah East, the winter school holidays are two weeks of possibility. Two weeks of sleeping in a little, of making new memories with friends, of trying something creative or active or silly or brave. And at Bright Kids, we build a program that makes every one of those two weeks count.

Bright Kids: Who We Are

Bright Kids is the outside school hours care service operated by Moranbah Early Learning Centre at Moranbah East State School — and it carries that same deep commitment to community, quality, and genuine care that has made Moranbah Early Learning Centre a cornerstone of this town for over two decades.

Our philosophy is simple: every child deserves to be valued for their own individuality. That means our Winter Vacation Care program is not a one-size-fits-all experience. It is responsive, thoughtful, and built around the real children who walk through our doors — their energy, their curiosity, their need for both adventure and moments of calm.

We know it takes a village to raise a child — and at Bright Kids, we are proud to be part of yours.

Winter in Moranbah: The Best Time for an Adventure

There’s a reason locals love the Moranbah winter. Moranbah’s winters are very mild and dry, with cooler nights — and those clear, comfortable July days are genuinely perfect for outdoor activity, creative play, and making the most of everything our community has to offer.

At Bright Kids, we lean right into it. Our Winter Vacation Care program takes full advantage of Moranbah’s spectacular July weather, building a daily program that balances energetic outdoor experiences with quieter creative and social moments inside — because a great school holiday program knows how to do both.

Our Vacation Care hours run from 6:30 am to 5:45 pm, giving families the flexibility they need while ensuring every child experiences a full, enriching day.

What Children Love About Bright Kids Winter Vacation Care

The best way to describe a day at Bright Kids Vacation Care? Ask a child who has been. They’ll tell you about the game that got a little out of hand, the art project they were weirdly proud of, and the new friend they made in the queue for morning tea.

Here’s what fills their days:

🎨 Creative and Hands-On Experiences. From craft activities and building challenges to collaborative projects that children genuinely take ownership of, creativity is woven through every day. These are not worksheet activities — they are open-ended, joyful, messy, imaginative experiences that give children the space to think differently and make something they’re proud of.

The My Time, Our Place framework for school-age care in Australia (the national curriculum framework for OSHC) highlights that quality programs respond to children’s interests, support their sense of identity and agency, and foster creativity and collaboration. Our educators at Bright Kids take this seriously in everything they plan.

🏃 Active Play and Physical Challenges. Children need to move — and at Bright Kids, movement is never an afterthought. Outdoor games, physical challenges, team activities, and free play give children the chance to build coordination, resilience, and the kind of full-bodied, laughing exhaustion that signals a genuinely great day.

Research consistently shows that physical activity during the school holidays supports not just physical health but also emotional wellbeing and social development in school-age children — a point reinforced by Queensland Health’s focus on active children and healthy communities.

🤝 Friendships and Social Development. Something wonderful happens when children from the same school spend extended, unstructured time together outside the classroom. The social dynamics shift. Friendships deepen. Children who may not have spoken much during the school term find common ground over a shared activity.

According to Early Childhood Education and Care Queensland, OSHC services provide an essential opportunity for children to develop social skills, extend their learning, and discover a sense of belonging beyond the classroom. At Bright Kids, those bonds often outlast the holidays themselves.

🍽️ Nutritious Meals and Snacks — All Included. All food is included in our Vacation Care program. Our educators understand that well-nourished children are focused, happy, and ready to engage — and that families in Moranbah are busy enough without worrying about packed lunches.

We are fully supportive of dietary requirements, allergies, and cultural or religious food needs. Simply discuss your child’s needs with us at enrolment, and we will ensure every mealtime is safe and enjoyable for them.

Built for Moranbah East Families

Moranbah East State School has been part of this community since 1981, and Bright Kids has grown alongside the families it serves. Moranbah’s community is a mix of permanent residents and a significant FIFO workforce, and that means our families have a genuinely wide range of scheduling needs during the school holidays.

Whether both parents work through the holiday break, one parent is on a roster, or you simply want your child to have a rich, social, active experience during the winter break rather than two weeks at home, Bright Kids Winter Vacation Care is here for you.

We do not judge why you need care during the school holidays. We simply make sure that when your child is with us, they are having a brilliant time.
