There’s no better way to start Mother’s Day than with a warm brekkie made (or at least helped along) by the children. Whether it’s breakfast in bed or a little family feast at the table, taking the time to make something yummy shows Mum just how loved she is.

Here are a few simple, child-friendly breakfast ideas that are easy to whip up — even for our littlest chefs (with a bit of adult help, of course!).

Banana Pancakes

You’ll need:

  • 1 ripe banana

  • 2 eggs

  • Butter for the pan

What to do:
Mash the banana in a bowl, crack in the eggs, and whisk it all together. Heat a pan with a bit of butter and cook small pancakes for a couple of minutes on each side. Top with berries, honey or a sprinkle of icing sugar. Yum!

Yoghurt Parfait Cups

You’ll need:

  • Greek yoghurt

  • Fresh fruit (berries, banana, mango)

  • Muesli or granola

What to do:
Layer yoghurt, fruit and granola in a glass or small jar. Let the children help with the layering — it’s like edible artwork! Pop a little flower on the side or write a note to go with it.

Egg Muffins

You’ll need:

  • 4 eggs

  • Chopped veggies (capsicum, spinach, tomato)

  • Shredded cheese

  • Muffin tray

What to do:
Whisk the eggs in a bowl and stir in the chopped veggies and cheese. Pour into a greased muffin tin and bake at 180°C for about 15 minutes. Great for a quick savoury bite — and they reheat well too!

Heart-Shaped Toast

Use a cookie cutter to make heart shapes out of bread slices. Toast them and serve with jam, avocado or peanut butter. children love cutting the shapes, and it’s a cute, easy win for breakfast time.

Mother’s Day isn’t about fancy food — it’s about thoughtfulness and love. Even the simplest meal feels extra special when it’s made (or chosen) by little hands.

From everyone at Moranbah Early Learning Centre, happy cooking — and happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mums in our community!
